Clinical Rotation
During my dietetic internship, I gained clinical experience across different settings under the guidance of registered dietitians. At Seton Medical Center Austin, I focused on in-patient adult nutrition, assessing and managing dietary needs for hospitalized adults. Dell Children's Hospital provided insight into pediatric nutrition, where I learned to address unique nutritional challenges in children and adolescents. In the NICU at Seton, I specialized in neonatal nutrition, ensuring optimal feeding plans for premature and critically ill infants. Additionally, at HEB wellness clinics, I practiced outpatient nutrition counseling, promoting health and wellness through personalized dietary guidance. During these rotations, I had excellent preceptors who took the time to thoroughly teach me, were patient with me, and were enthusiastic with my learning. Their consistent support makes me want to strengthen the dietetic community by providing the same support to future dietetic students as a future preceptor who is patient, thoughtful, and enthusiastic (CRDN 5.8). Through this rotation I was able to sharpen my medical nutrition therapy skills, interdisciplinary skills, and practice using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics nutrition recommendations for patient interventions.
Self Evaluations and Reflections
Throughout the clinical rotations, I submitted self evaluations and reflections to document my experience. Having weekly reflections allowed me to assess what competencies I was achieving each week as well as establishing short-term goals to sharpen my dietetic skills. At the end of the clinical rotations, I completed final evaluations to reflect on my experience throughout the rotation and examine my growth. Click on the icons below for examples of my refections and self-evaluations (CRDN 5.1).
